Another weekend, another trip, and this weekend I got to
travel to Vienna, Austria. After an extremely long bus ride (around 10 hours!),
we arrived on Saturday morning. We spent the day walking around the city center
and taking tons of pictures. I was able to learn about some of the history and
see the opera house, the national library, the Spanish riding school, several
churches and so much more. I also got to try some authentic food from the area.
Towards the end of the day, our group made our way to the other end of the
city, and after tons of walking we were able to find a festival just like
Oktoberfest and hung out there until we had to go back to the hostel and meet
the group for dinner. After dinner we stayed at the hostel and hung out with
other students until we called it an early night. We knew Sunday would be a
long day as well.
We spent the whole next day at the Schönbrunn Palace. We
bought a ticket that allowed us to go on a guided audio tour through the whole
first floor, the garden in the back, a labyrinth, as well as the Gloriette
structure. All were equally amazing, but I was struck with the beauty of the
Palace, one room in particular. It was the Great Gallery. We weren’t allowed to
take pictures inside during the tour, so the picture below is from a postcard,
but it’s one of those things you have to see. The detail in the room was incredible.
The chandelier’s alone held 70 candles each! The room was used for big parties
and gatherings. The other big highlight of the day was the view of Vienna form
atop the Gloriette structure. I have always been a sucker for beautiful views,
so I caught myself taking so many pictures during our time at the top. The trip
was so much fun and I am reminded every time I think about it how lucky I am to
be able to experience things like this.
Until next time, this Falcon says Guten Tag!
